“Hawaii has had a heck of a run,” Dan Witters, research director of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, told the Today show. “They do a lot of things right there. They take good care of themselves. They do the blocking and tackling of physical wellness really well.”

The survey involved phone interviews with more than 177,000 Americans covering five areas of life: purpose, social, financial, community, and physical.
